Star-Jobs Red Box Karaoke

Heartiest congratulation to the winners of the Star-Jobs Office Scenario Contest:

You have just submitted a superb proposal to your boss and after your boss analysed the proposal, he quickly dismissed this as "nothing new". A week later, you saw your proposed plan approved by the top management and your boss has claimed total credit for it.

How do you handle this situation to ensure that you get the credit for the proposal and not offend the boss at the same time?

Part 01
Solution 01:

I will amicably ask my boss on why he claimed total credit for my proposal. Then, my boss should tell the truth to upper management regarding this matter. Perhaps upper management had misunderstood to whom the proposal belongs to.

Solution 02:

In our weekly meeting, I will thank my boss for the opportunity to be part of the project, and to thank him for his guidance and ideas. I would say something like "Without your support, I would not have done this alone". That way, he does not feel that I am trying to outdo him.

Solution 03:

I usually have a copy of all my work in the office including mails, e-mails and proposals. It is my habit to type my name, file name, the date and time of my assignments. To get the credit for my ideas, I would make an appointment with upper management with my boss present, and I would present my copies to each of them, letting them know that my boss was involved in producing the proposal, too. Naturally I will show them the evidence of the hard copy of my proposal as proof at the end of the meeting.

Winner: Tan Phaik Cheng (xxxxxx-xx-5120)
Solution 04:

I will approach upper management when my boss is around and thank them for accepting my proposal. When upper management gives me a "surprise" look, thinking that the proposal was my boss's idea, I will reply "Didn't Mr X (my boss) tell you that the proposal was my idea? I guessed he was too busy and had forgotten about this. Am I right, Mr X?"

Solution 05:

If he is a good boss, let him take credit for it this time. However, if he does it on a regular basis, look for another job as people like him should not be bosses in the first place.
